Centrally located in the Southeast, Huntsville is the birthplace of the U.S. space program. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center, home to Adult Space Academy®, is Earth’s largest space museum. Explore the history of space exploration and glimpse the future at Alabama’s most visited paid attraction.

A mix of high-tech cool and sublime southern culture, this city truly has something for everyone. Did you know Huntsville is home to the largest space museum in the world? The U.S. Space & Rocket Center features interactive, hands-on exhibits, the Intuitive Planetarium, Space Camp, and more – in the Rocket City, everyone can be an astronaut for a day. In true Huntsville fashion, you’ll find history celebrated along with progress. The permanent museum collection covers everything from a model of the first American satellite, Explorer I original capsule trainers for the Mercury and Gemini programs, design modules for the International Space Station, next-generation vehicles such as Sierra Nevada’s Dream Chaser, and the current models for SLS (Space Launch System – more commonly known as the mission to Mars!)

The first capital of Alabama, Huntsville features numerous historic districts and attractions. The Twickenham, Old Town, and Five Points districts are in the heart of downtown Huntsville. Harrison Brothers Hardware sits on the square in downtown Huntsville and is the oldest hardware store in the state, which now features specialty gifts and artwork from local and regional artists. Burritt on the Mountain, a living history museum, sits high atop a mountain with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Burritt features an early 20th Century mansion and a collection of 19th and early 20th Century buildings to explore.

The arts are thriving in Huntsville! The Huntsville Museum of Art features nationally recognized traveling exhibitions and exhibits from its permanent collection. Located in Big Spring International Park, the museum is a perfect stop for groups in the heart of the city. Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment is a repurposed textile mill turned artist haven. It’s the largest privately-owned arts facility in the south, featuring 200+ artists, studios, galleries, and everything from culinary to performing arts.
