Next year will be a big one for Fort McHenry, the historic site of the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. As the country commemorates the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Fort McHenry will be the site of a large-scale event called Star-Spangled Spectacular.
“September of 2014 will be the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore at Fort McHenry,” said Visit Baltimore CEO Tom Noonan. “We’re going to have a major event for 10 days in early September. It will be a huge historical commemoration.”
The proceedings will begin with the annual Defender’s Day commemoration at North Point. After that, highlights of the Star-Spangled Spectacular will include battle re-enactments, a maritime festival with tall-ship sailings, a Blue Angels air show and other special events. Visitors can also enjoy fireworks, parades and a special commemorative ceremony at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.
Star-Spangled Spectacular will take place September 6-14, 2014.
