New attractions coming to York County

New ways to cycle, swing and enjoy theater are coming to York County, S.C., in time for the 2012 Going On Faith Conference, August 21-23.

The host city has several new attractions opening this year, including the Giordana Velodrome. The same month that the Going On Faith Conference is in town, the Velodrome will host the USA Cycling International Omninum Track National Championship.

This cycling venue opens in March as part of the Rock Hill Outdoor Center, which is currently under construction. The complex will stretch 250 acres with numerous recreational activity offerings and views of the Catawba River.

Carrowinds, an expansive theme park, will add a 301-foot-tall swing to its long list of rides. Called Windseeker, the 30-story-high swing gives the sensation of flying.

Thrill-seekers can also look to the Camp Canaan Zip Line Canopy Tour for some fast-paced fun. Opened in 2011, the zip line course runs for three hours across nine zip lines, two rope bridges and three short nature trails. One zip even runs across the Catawba River.

The theater premier of “Wounded Warrior” comes to NarroWay Productions in May. NarroWay performed the closing program for the 2011 conference and also plan on putting on show for the 2012 conference in York County. “Wounded Warrior” tells the story of Geronimo’s tragedies and successes.
