OXON HILL, Maryland — A new 175-foot Ferris wheel that will provide views of the nation’s Capitol is scheduled to open in May at Maryland’s National Harbor.
The 17-story Capital Wheel will be on the end of a new pier overlooking the Potomac River and will also provide views from its 42 gondolas of the National Mall, the White House and Arlington National Cemetery.
The $15 million attraction’s enclosed gondolas will be climate controlled and will operate year round. Each gondola will hold eight people.
It is the latest addition to National Harbor, which includes a Gaylord conference center and hotel, the relocated National Children’s Museum, outlet stores, an ice rink and a carousel.
MGM Resorts International also has won rights to build a $925 million casino resort there overlooking the river.
