GRAND CANYON, Arizona — Grand Canyon National Park’s iconic El Tovar hotel will close Jan. 1, 2017, for a major rehabilitation that will include substantial improvements to the building’s back-of-the-house facilities as well as public areas and guest rooms.
The hotel will reopen April 14, 2017.
One of the original great hotels of the national park system, El Tovar opened in 1905 and is a member of the Historic Hotels of America.
The rehabilitation will include extensive work on the HVAC systems; upgrades to electrical, safety, plumbing and security systems; painting guest rooms and corridors; replacing kitchen equipment; and replacing carpet in the dining room and lounge.
