Portland, Oregon, offers new tours

PORTLAND, Oregon — Several new tours have broadened the options for experiencing the City of Roses.

The Secrets of Portlandia tour, which meets daily in Pioneer Courthouse Square, focuses on the city’s history and culture in a humorous way. The tour is also unusual in that the guides work only for tips — the tour itself costs nothing.

As food carts become almost synonymous with Portland, two new tours offer visitors guidance in navigating the hundreds of carts within city limits.

Flavor Street, from Portland Walking Tours, hits several collections of food carts downtown, offering bites and nibbles along the one-mile, two-hour tour.

Brett Burmeister, the managing editor of the encyclopedic website www.FoodCartsPortland.org, also guides tours past some of his favorite carts.

Shutterbugs will enjoy professional photographer Jennifer Costello’s Portland Photo Tour, which combines photography technique and composition instruction with a guided tour of some of the city’s most photogenic areas in a two-hour tour.
