Jerusalem Biblical Zoo to open aquarium

JERUSALEM – The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo has announced plans to build Israel’s largest aquarium. The aquarium is scheduled to open in 2015 with two million cubic meters of seawater.

In the main exhibit, visitors will walk through an underwater tunnel to see 180-degree views of sharks, sea turtles, coral reefs and exotic fish. The two largest tanks will replicate life in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, while 30 smaller tanks will feature other habitats.

Built in 1993, the zoo sits on 62 acres with exhibits featuring animals from Israel and other species mentioned in the Bible. The zoo also harbors animals close to extinction, such as the golden lion tamarin, the macaw parrot and other endangered species.
