YONKERS, N.Y. – Imagine the joy of a child that could step inside his or her own colorful Lego creation. Kids will be able to come a lot closer to that dream at the Legoland Discovery Center Westchester in Yonkers, N.Y. The indoor attraction started construction in October and is scheduled for completion in spring 2013.

Representatives from Merlin Entertainment and Forest Ratner Companies, developer of the Ridge Hill complex in Yonkers, met in hard hats and shovels for the groundbreaking ceremony on October 17.

“Lego holds a special place in our hearts,” said Kathy Welch, senior vice president for retail development for Forest City Ratner Companies. “We all built Lego buildings and cities as children, and now Legoland Discovery Center Westchester is helping us continue to build a community of great retail and entertainment experiences for families here at Ridge Hill.”

The 32,300-square-foot center will feature more than three million Lego bricks with a range of interactive attractions, such as hands-on play areas, a 4-D cinema, master classes led by Lego Master Model Builders and two Lego rides. Miniland will be the venue’s signature recreation of landmark locations and buildings throughout Westchester County and New York City, built entirely with Lego bricks.
