Myrtle Beach: Tides of fun

Dinner Shows
Like any town bursting with entertainment choices, Myrtle Beach has dinner theater. Two unusual shows feature pirates and medieval knights, respectively.

Pirates Voyage Fun, Feast and Adventure features two bands of pirates, the Crimson and the Emeralds, battling on the deck of a ship, in the air and in a 15-foot-deep lagoon. The entire production area is surrounded by dinner tables full of guests with great views of the action. Diners are even encouraged to pick a team to root for as they compete for treasure.

“This is a very high-energy show,” said Larry McCoy, director of marketing. “You’ve got a combination of aerial acts and acrobatics along with the inclusion of water, so you get a unique product offering. The pirates and performers sword fight, swing from ropes, dive, tumble, flip, twist and turn on the ship and what we call ‘the beach’ along the edge of the lagoon.”

Movies and television shows about the medieval era are huge today. Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament brings the pageantry of that world to life onstage. Guests see battles with real swords and axes and competition jousting on horseback inside an 11th-century-style castle with a storyline that keeps you entertained at your dinner table.

The performance relies on perfect planning, timing and execution by the athletic cast members.
